How to Reset a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000 Combi Boiler

The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000 combi boiler is a very popular, compact, energy-efficient boiler which can deliver both heating and hot water on demand. The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000 combi boiler is known for its user friendly display, aesthetics and its ease of use, but even the best boilers will require resetting from time to time.

If your Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000 combi boiler goes into fault, a reset may be needed.

Before resetting the boiler, you should read the display and make a note of the fault code. Here are a few of the more common fault codes that you could encounter:-

  • CE - Communication Error - This fault appears when the boiler isn't communicating with the control unit or sensor. This can be caused by a wiring fault or internal faults.
  • A7 - Flow Temperature Sensor Fault - This fault occurs if the boiler detects a problem with the temperature sensor. This could cause incorrect readings and heating issues
  • A1 - Pump Running Dry - This fault appears when the boiler detects that water isn't moving correctly through the system. This can be caused by an airlock or a failed pump.
  • EA - Ignition Failure - This fault occurs when the boiler fails to ignite. This could be due to a lack of gas supply.
  • C6 - Fan Running Too Slowly - This fault occurs when there is a problem with the fan or a problem with air circulation in the system.

If your boiler goes into fault and displays a fault code, follow these steps:-

  1. Make a note of the fault code and try to look for obvious causes, such as checking the gas supply is on if you have an 'EA Ignition Failure' fault.
  2. Press and hold the 'up and down' buttons to reset the boiler. This is located on the boiler's control panel. Press and hold the 'up and down' buttons for a few seconds until the display clears and the boiler will begin the restart.
  3. Wait for the boiler to restart. If the boiler doesn't reset or the fault persists this may be a sign of a bigger problem than what a reset can fix.
  4. The boiler will go through a self-check process. If everything is okay, the boiler will resume normal operation.

Summary

If your Worester Bosch Greenstar 4000 combi boiler goes into fault, you should check what the fault code is, look for obvious causes and correct them if possible.
