The Alpha E-Tec combi boiler is a compact, A-rated energy-efficient boiler which is very popular due to its long manufacturer's warranty and low prices. The Alpha E-Tec combi boiler is well known for its reliability, but even the best boilers will require resetting from time to time.
If your Alpha E-Tec combi boiler goes into fault, a reset may be needed.
Before resetting the boiler, you should read the display and make a note of the fault code. Here are a few of the more common fault codes that you could encounter:-
- E10 - Low Water Pressure - This fault appears when the system pressure drops too low. This can happen due to releasing pressure from the system by bleeding radiators or if you have a leak.
- E20 - Overheating - This fault occurs if the boiler detects excessively high temperature. This could be caused by a failed pump or a blocked heat exchanger.
- E25/E26 - Circulation Fault - This fault appears when the boiler detects that water isn't moving correctly through the system. This can be caused by an airlock or a failed pump.
- E35 - Ignition Failure - This fault occurs when the boiler fails to ignite. This could be due to a lack of gas supply.
- E96 - Voltage Supply Fault - This fault occurs when there is a problem with the electrical supply to the boiler
How to Reset an Alpha E-Tec Combi Boiler
If your boiler goes into fault and displays a fault code, follow these steps:-
- Make a note of the fault code and try to look for obvious causes, such as checking the gas supply is on if you have an 'E35 Ignition Fault'.
- Press the reset button on the boiler. This is located on the boiler's control panel and it is usually labelled 'reset'. Press and hold this reset button for a few seconds until the display clears.
- Wait for the boiler to restart. If the boiler doesn't reset or the fault persists this may be a sign of a bigger problem than what a reset can fix.
- Check the display. Hopefully the fault has reset, if it's still present call a gas safe engineer.
Summary
If your Alpha E-Tec combi boiler goes into fault, you should check what the fault code is, look for obvious causes and correct them if possible. You should then try to reset your boiler by holding the reset button. If the fault persists, you should call a gas safe engineer.
A full list of fault codes can be found in the Alpha E-Tec boiler manual.
